Masks Required for Indoor Church Activities

Dear friends,

The Re-Entry Task Force had a call yesterday with a representative from the Department of Public Health. Based on that conversation and new CDC guidelines, the Re-Entry Task Force made the following recommendations to Session at a called meeting last evening. While NPC has done numerous things to help keep our members and friends safe during this pandemic, it continues to be a fluid situation, and we are suggesting we act accordingly.

The recommendations which were approved at Session.

  • Masks are required during indoor activities at church, regardless of a person’s vaccination status.
  • Social distancing protocols must be maintained during church activities.
  • These protocols will be reviewed monthly.

  • Since some vaccinated people are contracting the Delta variant, anyone can be a carrier, regardless of their vaccination status. Therefore, it is still possible to transmit the disease.
  • The transmission of the delta variant requires less exposure time, and therefore, poses a greater risk of transmission. This also makes contact tracing more difficult.
  • Between the time of our call and the Session meeting, transmission rates in Fulton County had progressed from SUBSTANTIAL transmission to HIGH

While this news may seem disheartening, especially as we enter into a weekend of fellowship and connection, NPC has continued to rise to the challenge of being the church during these difficult times and caring for one another in the best way we can.

What does this mean for our All-Church Weekend (ACW)?

  • All participants, whether vaccinated or not, are asked to wear a mask when inside the building.
  • We will not be measuring out 3-6 foot spaces, but use your best judgment to try to give 3-6 feet of space between yourself and people not in your family, especially indoors.
  • There will still be tables set up in the fellowship hall for meals, but we have too large a group for all of us to eat inside. Tables will also be set up outside under the tent.
  • Please bring a water bottle filled for the day and a camping chair for times when you will gather outside.

We hope you still plan to join your church family for a weekend of connection! If you need to change or cancel your participation for any reason or simply would like more information about the ACW, please contact Jennifer Filpi. By letting us know about changes, we can be good stewards of our resources.

Know that these decisions were not made lightly but were made in consultation with public health professionals, and with great prayer, care, and discernment. We will also be working with our custodial staff to step-up our cleaning and disinfecting measures immediately, including fogging our building on weekly basis. These measures increase our mitigation strategies to ensure the healthy and safety of all who enter our building. The Re-Entry Task Force and Session will continue to monitor COVID-19 and adapt accordingly.
