Every summer the youth go on a week long mission trip called City Dive. On this trip we travel around Atlanta learning about the needs, joys, and people of our city.
We have 22 youth signed up for City Dive this year. Today we visit the Drake House, a shelter for homeless mothers and children in Roswell. We broke up our youth into teams and tackled many chores and task to help keep the Drake House in top condition. Some youth cleaned an apartment that a mother and her children were moving into later in the day. Others pulled weeds and did basic yard work. Another group of youth cleared out a play house that was being used as a storage shed. While we were only there for a short time, together we were able to work 70 hours for the Drake House and save them time and money so that their ministry could focus on more pressing needs.
After a delicious meal at Cici's Pizza, the group explored the great outdoors by taking a canoe trip down the Chattahoochee River. Not only did we become experts in how to paddle a canoe (and in splashing, jumping in, capsizing, and bailing water!), but we were able to take in a glimpse of some of the beautiful scenery and nature that Georgia has to offer.
All in all it was a great day and we look forward to the rest of the week.
