Becoming a Member
We're pleased that you are interested in becoming a part of the Northminster church family. A good place to start is by attending any of the activities or programs here at Northminster and, of course, worship at 9:00 am and 11:15 am on Sunday mornings with Sunday School from 10:00 to 11:00 am. We also encourage you to provide your contact information on the red friendship pads on the pews in the sanctuary when you visit us so that we can be in contact with you and have an opportunity to get to know you as you get to know Northminster.
New Members are formally received into membership throughout the year. Inquirers are invited to a one day class called Membership Matters. The topics covered in this class include:
- "Who is Your Lord and Savior?" This is a brief history of the church, an overview of our community's beliefs, what membership entails, discussion of reasons to join a church, and what a profession of faith is.
- "Do You Trust in Him?" This will cover what the community seeks to believe and what trust in Christ means.
- "Do You Promise to be Jesus' Faithful Disciple and to Serve the Church Wherever You May Be?" This section covers the responsibilities of membership, how to serve the church and the kingdom of God and how the community can be like a family.
Inquirers will be matched with a covenant partner (individual or family of similar interests) who will serve as your mentor during the New Member process. On the Sunday following the conclusion of your class, you will meet with the your covenant partners and the church leadership for a welcome reception, where you will be officially received into membership. You will then be introduced to the congregation at the 11:15 am worship service. You may become a member of Northminster by affirmation of faith (if you have never been baptized), reaffirmation of faith (if you have been baptized, but away from the worship and fellowship of the church), or by transfer of your letter of membership from another Christian church.
It is a joy to share in the life, worship, and mission of a local church. We hope you will consider becoming a part of Northminster.
